Your brain marked it ‘done’ without actually doing it
I swear, I replied!!
“Wait, I never replied?? I thought I did!”
You saw the message. Maybe even typed the reply in your head, but never hit the send button.
It’s not ignorance, it’s not avoidance, It’s your brain checking the box - mentally.
In the day of constant pings and previews our brain often confuses processing for responding. We confuse our internal actions for our outward actions. The processing of message sometimes takes long enough that you forget to actually react to it.
Because sometimes just reading a message and emotionally reacting to it — feels like we already engaged.
But then hours pass by, days pass by, either the notification of double text of not replying or the self consciousness comes by – and the guilt hits in.
Wait….did I ever reply?
Yes you did, but only mentally. Your brain thought you did.
It’s not forgetfulness. It’s not carelessness. It’s a mental draft that never became a delivery. It’s cognitive closure — without the closure.
